NOTES:

Do you long for peace?

How peaceful is your life? How peaceful are your relationships with others?

John 14:27-31 NIV

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.“You heard me say, ‘I am going away and I am coming back to you.’ If you loved me, you would be glad that I am going to the Father, for the Father is greater than I.I have told you now before it happens, so that when it does happen you will believe.I will not say much more to you, for the prince of this world is coming. He has no hold over mebut he comes so that the world may learn that I love the Father and do exactly what my Father has commanded me. “Come now; let us leave.

John 14:27 NIV

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

Jesus does not give as the world gives.

Jesus gives us peace.

Romans 5:1-5 NIV

Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christthrough whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we boast in the hope of the glory of God.Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseveranceperseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.

We have peace with God through Jesus Christ.

John 14:28-30 NIV

“You heard me say, ‘I am going away and I am coming back to you.’ If you loved me, you would be glad that I am going to the Father, for the Father is greater than I.I have told you now before it happens, so that when it does happen you will believe.I will not say much more to you, for the prince of this world is coming. He has no hold over me

JESUS’ DEATH WILL BE, IS, AND WAS FOR THEIR BENEFIT…AND OURS

He knew what was coming
He knew what he was doing
He knew what needed to happen

The disciples needed to know that.
We need to know it today.

Romans 5:6-10 NIV

You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly.Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die.But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through him!For if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life!

John 14:30-31 NIV

I will not say much more to you, for the prince of this world is coming. He has no hold over mebut he comes so that the world may learn that I love the Father and do exactly what my Father has commanded me. “Come now; let us leave.

It had to be this way:

So the disciples would believe
So the entire world would know

Romans 5:10-15 NIV

For if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life! Not only is this so, but we also boast in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation. Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all sinnedTo be sure, sin was in the world before the law was given, but sin is not charged against anyone’s account where there is no law.Nevertheless, death reigned from the time of Adam to the time of Moses, even over those who did not sin by breaking a command, as did Adam, who is a pattern of the one to come. But the gift is not like the trespass. For if the many died by the trespass of the one man, how much more did God’s grace and the gift that came by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, overflow to the many!

Jesus brought peace for the entire world.

John 14:26-27 NIV

But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

Jesus has made peace with God for us, and he offers it to us freely.

Christ has made peace with God for us, we can approach him. The father has sent the Holy Spirit in the name of Jesus to comfort us.

The peace he gives is meant to be seen by others, evident in our life and in our relationships.

Do you know the peace of Jesus?
Who will you share it with?
How will you show it?
