we are in a series of Hebrews from chapter one we are in 11
0:43and we’re in just sit in 11 for the rest of summer so I hope you guys are good
0:49with that because we are breaking it down by faith we are breaking down all these by faith statements in the book of
0:56Hebrews this week where all the Hebrews 11 20. and as I was praying about this week
1:03um and and kind of trying to find an area in my life where this connects and
1:09hopefully an area of your life of a time in our life where he did
1:14something and he he spoke really clearly to Brian and I about our children
1:21friend and I have been married about four years we had intentionally not even
1:26trying to have kids until about four years in because we just thought we’d want this time early in our marriage to
1:32put that foundation and build strong and so right around the four-year Mark we’re like okay here we go like sure whatever
1:38happens and and so when the lawyers lasted Us in his timing then we’ll start
1:44our family and that’s where we were and we um we’re working at a church I was on
1:50staff at a church at the time as a children’s Pastor I was on the executive team of that church and it was a pretty
1:57cushy job I’m not kind of like this three jobs don’t tend to um so thank you very much and this one didn’t
2:04necessarily do that but it had a lot of benefits it had health care it was like important parents start a family it had
2:11retirement just the things that aren’t always available it was a huge blessing
2:16to have that job it was an incredible opportunity well right at this time in our lives the Lord was like okay Mandy
2:22it’s time to resign and we had felt a strong calling for
2:29Brett to start moving forward in his call in Ministry and we just knew that where we were wasn’t it wasn’t where
2:35document is to be and so I had this conversation with my senior pastor I resigned he said what are you doing
2:41where are you going have you already interviewed I said no the Lord just told me now at the time so here we go no job
2:48no prospects the next week we found out we’re going okay it was like
2:57okay and then I got really sick I mean like sticker than you could ever imagine
3:03a pregnant woman be like I was so nauseous I agree and then I started
3:10having pain and so I went to the doctors who went to the emergency room actually
3:15and the ultrasound tech says the pregnancies look normal
3:22and this is our first pregnancy and I’m like
3:29why on Earth would you say pregnancies she’s going through the ultrasound and
3:35she goes here’s healthy pregnancy a and I was like hey
3:43and here’s healthy pregnancy a has a strong a good spinal column here’s the
3:50brain here’s the heart everything you can see in six weeks here’s the heartbeat and
3:57here’s healthy pregnancy
4:03and uh and Brian is just standing there next to it he’s like baby
4:09and I’m sitting there processing and he’s going to be and he’s getting
4:14like progressively louder so this ultrasound tech is just talking and we’re sitting there it’s completely
4:20stopped not really understanding and all of a sudden my sister who has twins popped in my head and I went
4:30and he’s like B twins and he goes B
4:39Twins and the ultrasound tech stocks
4:45you didn’t know [Applause] the crystal sound I’ve ever had you know
4:50so we’re like right there in the midst of it my I get so sick they’re like you’re just gonna be sick because
4:55they’re double everything and I’m like hey I get so sick I had to tell my pastor because I was missing morning
5:02prayer and so I went to him and I said hi Pastor John um
5:07we’re not really telling anyone yet that I’m pregnant and we’re having twins and that’s why
5:12I’ve been late for things and he goes oh my gosh are we staying like do you want to stay longer I was like
5:19no um actually it feels more like confirmation
5:24of what God’s doing and moving Us in this direction right no insurance no
5:29jobs no prospects and it totally seems like the right thing and so when we were
5:35when we were choosing our daughters names once we found out they were girls and we were choosing their names
5:42we wanted to stand in the promise of God we wanted to stand on what he was doing
5:49in our life on the blessing that they would be to us we wanted to Proclaim that and so when we picked their names
5:56collecting Elizabeth Isabella Maurice we have two names whose roots
6:02ultimately meaning promised God beautiful promise one is beautiful voice
6:12and promised of God and one is Isabella which is Elizabeth
6:19beautiful Bella you’re beautiful
6:28that’s what we named that’s what we wanted to claim over their lives that’s
6:33the blessing we wanted to take over them and that’s what a blessing is you know
6:39we we saw what God had done in our lives we were trusting on what because we knew
6:46how he had come through before we were trusting on what he was doing in that moment and we were proclaiming that
6:52blessing over them and over our future and a blessing is soon for that it’s a proclamation that God has good things
6:59for us for our children and for our loved ones that’s what a blessing is and we’re
7:06called to bless others to bless our children to bless our families to bless our loved ones in Jesus would even call
7:12us to bless those who curse us so tonight not just the people we care
7:18about but also everyone to give a blessing
7:23to give a blessing is to Proclaim and stand in faith that God has good things
7:30for us for our children and for our loved ones and relationship for the Lord
7:38and we’re going to be talking this morning about a passage in Hebrews Hebrews
7:43it says by faith Isaac blessed Jacob and
7:49Esau his thumbs in regards to the Future I see Isaac blessed in regards to their
7:57future we’re going to look at what it means for us today to live in that same kind of
8:03space into a walk-in on Santa’s face and we’re going to do it by turning back to Genesis in a moment but first of all the
8:09prayer looking past father God thank you so much for who you are thank you God for the good things
8:16that you have done throughout the history of not only Humanity but this world
8:21through all the time God thank you that you are good and loving and that you care for us thank
8:28you God that you come through and make good on your promises and that we can trust God that you have good things for
8:35us even when we can’t see it even when we don’t understand how it’s going to work even when we don’t know how it’s
8:41going to play out God we understand that you can do these things we claim it today we stand on those promises
8:48and those blessings for you father you know how our weeks have gone you know the distractions we walked in
8:54here today with we pray that those who followed in that in this time in this space we could come to your word and
9:00focus wholly on you open our hearts
9:06to hear your word open our eyes to see in our ears to hear so that we may be changed and encouraged
9:14this morning by what you have for us amen
9:22all right so it says and we’re going to turn back to the Book of Genesis chapter
9:2727. we have a Bible app for these you guys who didn’t remove uh
9:36um we are in the Bible app under events if you guys have the Bible athletes respond to this
9:42um under events it is
9:48the little app that is a Bible that says Bible on it um and then when you go to more
9:57um it’ll pop up the screen that has events you can find us on the map where tax Christian Church you can click on it
10:02our event is live and you can follow along with the scriptures in the Bible app or on the screen behind me as you go
10:09or in your bibles if you brought your Bible today all right
10:17so Genesis 27.
10:27yeah it’s like I get like dry fingers
10:33sorry all right here we go Genesis 27.
10:44it would help if I was being right but I can just read it from my tablet but
10:49there’s something about reading from the word of God okay Genesis 27 when Isaac
10:55was old and his eyes were weak so that he could no longer see he called Esau
11:00his older son and he said to him my son here I am he answered Isaac said I am
11:06now an old man and I don’t know the day of my death now then get your equipment
11:12your bow your Arab sorry your quiver and bow and go out to the Open Country to
11:20hunt some wild game for me prepare for me the kind of tasty food I like and
11:26bring it to me to eat so that I may give you my blessing before I die in faith
11:33not knowing the day or the hour that he would pass from this world to the next Isaac chooses to call Esau his oldest
11:41son and to bless him to proclaim a blessing over his life and
11:48in the ancient near East in the days that they lived a blessing carried legal weight this isn’t just like a warm
11:55sentiment that he’s giving his son this is a time that he is passing on his
12:00inheritance this is a legally binding moment for them this is like going to be
12:05what Esau gets from his father to carry on with his name for his family line
12:13that’s what we’re talking about here when he says I want to bless you in faith Isaac is thinking of the future he
12:19had prepared in advance of blessing for his son he knew and you’ll see how he
12:25says it he knew this moment would come and he was ready for it it seems like a
12:31lovely account at face value right you start reading to I Love The Book of Genesis because it
12:38never takes me where I think I’m about to go right so here we go it seems like this is gonna go well like
12:44easy Isaac says Esau the handsome game bring me the meal that I love and then
12:49I’m gonna bless you good plans let’s see how it goes okay
12:56Genesis 8 10 no wait
13:05Genesis 27 it just
13:15um okay so before we get there because I’m going to summarize a little bit it seems like it’s a good idea and it’s
13:20just gonna go for any time however Rebecca Isaac Swift esos mother okay
13:26she’s listening she overhears what he says and she calls Jacob her other twin
13:32son Esau’s brother in and she’s like hey this is what’s happening your your dad’s
13:39gonna bless your brother that you’re gonna be you’re gonna get the blessings so I want you to go and get feed with me and I’ll
13:46prepare the meal and then you’re gonna go into your father’s room and feed him the meal and then he’s gonna bless you
13:52instead and they go back and forth about it this is Rebecca’s idea they go back and forth about it Jacob it’s like I
13:57don’t want to get hot like he he just sort of says but what if he realizes and
14:02then I get cursed instead of a blessing so blessing and curse are both they both carry illegally by a big thing here if
14:10Jacob gets mad and is like casts him out that is what has to happen after that
14:15and Jacob is like if Isaac gets down if Jacob is like I don’t what about this
14:21what about that and his mom comes up with this plan for him
14:27so in verse 8 it says now my son listen carefully do what I tell you go out to
14:32the flock bring me two Choice young goats so I can prepare some tasty food for your father just the way he likes it
14:39then take it to your father to eat so that he can give you his Blessing this
14:46before he dies and so Jacob does this and I don’t know if you read the Bible and you’re like oh
14:54people but like all these people sometimes you know what is Rebecca doing
15:00why would she even do this and I am not going to justify her actions
15:05I’m not going to say that this is what she would should have done this is what she did and that’s what the Bible says
15:11it does not say either way that she should have or shouldn’t have but this is what she did and I love
15:16that that speaks so much to The credibility of the Bible because they don’t try to shoot it’s not sugar-coated
15:23it’s not changed it’s obvious it’s like she is being deceitful in what she is doing we do also have to view Rebecca
15:31through the lens of what the Lord has told her about her sons so when Rebecca was pregnant she had
15:38this trouble where the babies were jostling in her womb and she seeks the Lord about it and she goes to the Lord
15:45and here’s what the Lord says to her in Genesis 25 23 the Lord said to her two
15:51nations are in your womb and two peoples from within you will be separated
15:57one people will be stronger than the other and the older will serve together
16:06and he spots the older son and Jacob is the younger son now I’m not justifying what she’s doing
16:12I think it does help to remember she has been told this
16:18okay but we’re not here to talk about Rebecca we’re here to talk about Isaac because
16:25in Hebrews and such by faith Isaac blessed
16:30his sons in regard to their future right so we’re
16:36going to keep going in this account and see how this unfolds so they go
16:44and they do all of this stuff Genesis 27-14 they get all the food
16:51ready verse 14. so he went and got the them
16:57the game and he brought them to his mother and she prepared some tasty food just the way his daughter liked it then
17:04Rebecca took the best clothes of Esau her older son which she had in the house
17:11and put them on her younger son Jacob she also covered his hands
17:16and the smooth part of his neck with goat skin they are going for this okay like this
17:24is commitment right here they’re really going then she handed to her son Jacob the
17:31tasty food and bread that she had made he went to his father and said my father
17:37yes my son he answered who is it who is it right away
17:45I think it seems to know that something’s not quite right when he calls to ISA before Esau says here I am
17:51but there’s no question about a Tim but here Jacob comes in he Isaac is
17:56expecting Esau and he goes who is it
18:02so Jacob said to his father I’m Esau your firstborn I have done as you told
18:08me please sit up and eat some of my veins so that you may give me your blessing you know what this reminds me
18:14of as a parent is like when my kids come in and I don’t have my contacts in and they’re like hey Mom and I’m like
18:21yeah who is that but your voices are very similar I’ll
18:28just keep you talking and see if I can figure this out okay
18:33all right so Isaac asked to spend how did you find it so quickly my son
18:40oh sorry Jacob said to his father I may saw your first score I have done as you told me please sit up and eat some of my
18:46name so that you may give me some of your blessing Isaac asked his son how did you find it so quickly my son still
18:53I’m not I’m she’s still not sure here the Lord your God gave me success he
18:58replied then Isaac said to Jacob come near so I
19:03could touch you by saying to know whether you really are my son Esau or not he’s still like
19:11Jacob went close to his father Isaac who touched him and said
19:16the voice is the voice of Jada get on him that’s like a that’s a
19:21powerful moment in my parent book right here he knows his son’s voice The Voice as a son of J is the voice of Jacob the
19:28hands are the hands of Esau he did not recognize him for his hands were harried like those of his brother Isa so he
19:35proceeded to bless him and he said are you really my son Isa
19:40yeah I am he replied then he said my son bring me some of your games to eat so
19:46that I may give you my blessing Jacob brought it to him and he ate and
19:51he brought some wine and he drank and then his father Isaac said to him come here my son and kiss me so he went to
19:58him and he kissed him and when Isaac had caught the smell of his clothes
20:04final test he blessed him and he said and I’m going to reap a blessing in a moment but I
20:10gotta I have to stop here because I know some of you guys you’re sitting there as I’m reading this account you’re like liar
20:17liar liar liar and I am not denying that over and over and over again Jacob lies
20:25his brother later even says he is brightly named Deceiver with this again
20:30today this isn’t about Jacob this is about he’s like
20:43and what Isaac does here is made has Eternal impact for his family
20:49and not only for his family but for every single woman
20:55because it is like that Jesus comes and it is not only through as explained
21:02the Jacob slime and so him proceeding with this blessing
21:07and a moment when things are unknown is huge
21:15it’s huge it’s Faith He blesses his son even though
21:21some things about this team
21:27even though he’s not completely sure like and faith he says in Genesis 27.
21:37it says so he went to him and kissed him and whenever he caught this and all his clothes he blessed him and said ah the
21:44smell of my son is like a smell of the field the floor to supplies
21:50and here’s the blessing may God give you Heaven’s due and Earth’s rich and
21:55richness and abundance of green and blue wine magnations serve you and people bow down
22:02to you be Lord over your brothers and may the sons of your mother
22:10May those who curse you be cursed and those who bless you be blessed
22:19he and Jacob and your faith is maturing the future he
22:25is standing on what God has done in his life God has blessed Isaac
22:31and Isaac is passing that blessing onto his son and he is giving him the rights
22:37of the firstborn he is giving him the blessing of the firstborn all that he
22:43has is now going to Jacob and his legally minded when he’s done
22:50it is legally blinding there is no one doing what is just done
22:57and there’s a lot of trust that Isaac has in this blessing
23:05this Proclamation by faith of what God is going to do in the life of his son
23:12he is going to be richly and abundantly bless you
23:18may you be richly and abundantly blessed may be Earth revealed to you
23:24may you never want is what he’s saying may God turn by your
23:31entire life God will do this for you I give you this blessing you will be
23:36powerful you will be a nation you will rule over
23:41your brothers all of this household all of my household all of my servants is all under you and I’m trusting God
23:50in that blessing over your life it’s no longer on Isaac
23:58to do these things the Lord is going to do this and he’s proclaiming him and
24:03he’s standing on the ground
24:11[Music] like I guess that they saw maybe I’m just getting home
24:18as a job you guys
24:23and he’s standing on that promise my question today is
24:28a do you trust God with your children
24:35your family with your loved ones enough that when
24:40things are unknown and you can’t see exactly how God is going to come through or provide or do these things could you
24:47trust him enough to make a blessing like a proclamation over them
24:53like that that God will come through
25:01that’s what I think it’s gonna bite me and that’s what it is when we say that
25:07Isaac walked by faith and God is calling us to walk by that
25:12Faith with our feelings with our children with our loved ones who are friends
25:20with the people that we care most about that we hold on to when it seems like their future is uncertain or unsure
25:26we’re not really sure what’s going on
25:31God calls us to bless them that way to not hold on to
25:38their lives and try to make it happen our way
25:45for the people that you love I think it’s a challenge to all of us
25:50and I’m not saying it’s an easy one okay
25:56to trust that God knows what he’s doing
26:02to trust that God [Music]
26:07like is it in faith we can believe that God will fulfill his promises for our
26:12children our families and our loved ones we can bless them even when we are unsure because God is able it’s not
26:19about our ability it is about his ability to come through
26:26but Hebrew says that he blessed both his sons
26:32so let’s keep going and see what happens here so he gives this blessing he gives his
26:39Blessing to his son Jacob Jacob please
26:46and it says that he has scarcely left [Music] and Esau comes in he prepares the meal
26:53he brings it to his father and here’s what happens to Genesis 27 verses 32.
27:00all the way through 40. his father Isaac asked him who are you
27:06I’m your son he answered your firstborn he saw and there’s no question it says Isaac
27:13trembled violently and he says who was it then that hunting game and brought it to me I ate it just before you came in
27:19and I blessed him and indeed he will be blessed he’s legally minded he can’t remember
27:27and when he saw heard his father’s words he burst out with a loud and bitter cry and he said to his father bless me me
27:35too my father but he said your brother came
27:41deceitfully and he took your blessing and Esau said isn’t he rightfully named
27:48Jacob this is the second time he has taken advantage of me he took my Birthright
27:54and now he’s taken my blessing if you don’t know the story Esau sold his
27:59Birthright for a bowl of soup when he was banished okay so it’s in there okay well you can go back and read Genesis
28:06later but took his birthday as well
28:12and then he asked haven’t you reserved any blessing for me
28:19is there something for the other side and Isaac answered Esau I have made him
28:26Lord over you I have made all his servant all his relatives his servants and I have
28:32sustained him with grain and new wine so what can I possibly do to replace
28:40I haven’t given enough Esau said to his father do you have only
28:47one blessing my father bless me too my father then he saw left
28:53allowed
28:59and Isaac does something by faith
29:05when it seems impossible when he doesn’t understand really
29:13what else can be done for his son he steps out in faith
29:20Hill and it doesn’t feel that much of a blessing when he starts he says your dwelling will be away from
29:27the Earth’s richness and away from the Dews of Heaven that’s the opposite of
29:33the blessing he gave to Jacob you will live by the sword and you will serve
29:39your brother but when you grow Restless you will throw his yoke off from your neck in
29:48faith when it seems impossible but he can’t undo what’s been done when he doesn’t understand how God’s gonna move he says what makes fun you will stand in
29:56the freedom and the blessing of God and you will throw that yoke off your neck
30:02even when it seems impossible Isaac blessed as Esau
30:08I think he stands in that blessing
30:16he trusts god with Esau’s future
30:24Isaac proclaims blessing over a son when it seems impossible
30:30and we can’t too we can stand in the proclamation of
30:37evidence seems impossible or God will come
30:43in our lives in the lives of our children and realize that our fears in the lives of the
30:51people we love because let’s be honest you guys know our loved ones sometimes we worry then we don’t see how they’re
30:58going to walk out of the situation that they’re in we don’t see how they’re going to make the right choices we don’t see how they’re going to find their way
31:04to God but you know who sees God sees and God loves them and as much as you
31:10love them God loves them more and he has more blessing and more greater things in
31:16their lives than you could ever ever imagine all of your plans all of your strategy for your children for your
31:22loved ones with the people you care about in your lives that are far from God doesn’t it pales in comparison to
31:28what God could do chaos in comparison to what God can do
31:35for them we have to let go we have to let God we have to stand in blessing and
31:41Proclaim that over their lives when we’re looking and we’re saying if you and and I do this too I just don’t know
31:47how I just don’t know when I just don’t know what we just say God will
31:54God will take care of them God will take hold of them God will hold them up out
31:59of the depth he will do it because we’ve seen him do it he’s done it in my life
32:04and you stand on what God has done in the past in the Bible
32:11and in your life and in the lives of people around us why coming to church is so important
32:20because it’s the only place in our world where we go gathered with other people
32:27who aren’t necessarily our family and we get to talk about the good things that
32:32God has done in our lives and share that witness of how good he is of how
32:37faithful he is of who he is and what he’s done in our lives so that in those times when we can’t see
32:45it we can borrow the faith of others we can borrow and stand on the witness
32:52and the testimony of reliable people of milk who’ve had God come through for them
33:02that’s what we did when we named our kids because we just
33:07couldn’t see how God was going to come through for us
33:12and there were moments where we were like I don’t know okay you said they are
33:18a promise and a blessing and we’re going to stand on that and we’re going to walk through wherever
33:24you take us and we are gonna whatever heads are not in shaking at us and telling us we are
33:30just being stupid ah we’re going to continue to follow you in
33:36favor we’re going to stand in that blessing of faith
33:43in things like Isaac we can give that worry to God and ultimately when we do
33:50that we give those people our love to God will deliver them he will save them he
33:58will make a way he has a party done in the heavy lifted for us Jesus has already died for them
34:05salvation is already available so again Romans 5 14-17 says for those who are
34:12led by the spirit of God for those who are led by the spirit of God are the children of God
34:20he is the father who cares for them more than we would ever care for think about
34:26how much we love the person you love the most in your life God bless the Lord
34:32and we’re perfectly
34:38Romans 5 15 says the spirit you receive does not make you slave so that you live in fear again rather the spirit you
34:44received brought about your adoption to sonship we don’t have to live in fear we
34:50have eternal inheritance through Christ Jesus because we have become the sons of
34:55daughters of God our inheritance is that our blessing has
35:01already been spoken God has already said and we get an eternity
35:08with God because of it the spirit you received brought about your adoption through sonship and by him
35:15we cry Abba Father the spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are
35:20God’s children and now if we are children then we are heirs
35:27Heirs of God and co-heirs of Christ if indeed we share his sufferings in order that he may also share that we also
35:33share with his glory we have become co-heirs with Christ Our Birthright is not sellable like Esau’s
35:41was for a bowl of soup our blessing is not being given away to
35:49someone else it was made available through Christ’s death once and for all
35:54the authorities [Music]
36:09and asked and when we do we become Sons and
36:17Daughters of God and we have a father who has a kingdom that is greater than
36:24we could ever imagine and the things that he is waiting for us
36:30are greater than my package and the things he’s waiting for our own
36:35children in our families and our friends and I loved ones are greater than
36:41anything we could ever concoct or build or try to give them
36:54thank you that’s how we walk
36:59by state that’s how we walk in the space of Isaac had and he blessed not one but both of
37:07his sons
37:21than Isaac to be to live and blessing
37:28how much more this light of Jesus I did this before Jesus ever came he stood up
37:35and invading purpose blessing that God would come through how about us this side of Jesus death and Resurrection
37:42when God has come through God has been good on his promises that he would send a favor to this world and not only did
37:48he said him but he raced him from the dead how much more can we stand to trust God
37:56knowing that he went to extraordinary lengths so that we could possibly know
38:03ing full well that many people will reject them
38:10it was still worth it to him because you’re worth it to God
38:18maybe this is the first time you’ve heard that God has a blessing or an
38:25inheritance available to you and you’re sitting there and your heart is burning
38:30and you’re wondering how he did that and I had greatness for you all you have to
38:37do is telling me believe in him ask him
38:42to forgive you for yourself
38:49sometimes the mic cuts out it’s in the most important ones
38:56but all you have to do is ask him to pray before your status and she used to live for him
39:03she’s still laying down striving to worry for holding on
39:09anyway
39:15Jesus will do the heavy lifting for you all you have to do is ask
39:23and believe that he’ll meet you and that he makes good on these promises
39:29but Jesus died for you
39:35and all it takes is a prayer of confession to just tell them that
39:40he hears me and then you get baptized and tell the whole world yeah that’s how we do it
39:48here when you believe you get baptized yeah but maybe as I’ve been talking this
39:54morning you are already a Christian and you’ve been walking with the Lord
40:00and you’ve been reminded that God has done great things in your life and that maybe you’re being challenged this
40:06morning that it is time to stand on the blessing that Christ will not for you
40:12it is time to stand and believe that that blessing is good for your children but that blessing is good for your
40:19family and that that blessing is good for your loved ones
40:25I would encourage you if that’s you this morning start releasing it to God every time you find yourself saying but Lord I
40:32don’t know how they transport to your husband or to your spouse or to your best friend I just don’t understand okay
40:37if you just don’t understand you know who understands the Lord understands take it to Jesus let him
40:44let him take over pray for them
40:50release all that anxiety and all that memory of that love and share the
40:55password and that drives those things to God he is more than able to take
41:03or maybe this morning I’m talking about blessing we’ve talked about inheritance we’re talking about all this stuff that
41:08you are facing a future that feels hopeless
41:14and you don’t know you don’t know where God is
41:21you just don’t see him working I want to encourage you he’s working he is for you he is with you there is nowhere on this
41:27Earth that you could go through or not in his presence that’s what the Bible tells us tonight
41:33yeah there’s nowhere you could flee from his presence he is ever with you
41:40he cares for you he loves you he’s still writing this part of their story just keep walking Faithfully with him and in
41:48those moments where Darkness surrounds you Proclaim and blessing that Jesus Christ has already made a way
41:56through this evenness just hold on
42:05I’m going to pray for you this morning and then we’re going to spend some time
42:11asking God just to speak to us and show us where our hearts are this morning and what he would have us do with us
42:20father God thank you father we pray for those who Lord don’t
42:26know you yet God but are wanting to Lord we pray for anyone in this room that that has a burden and a desire in your
42:32heart to know what it means to be loved by you it’s to be a son or a daughter to
42:39be an heir to have full Assurance God but they have an inheritance waiting for
42:46them in heaven with you God we pray and even us who believe God
42:54we we profess our faith we trust you God we admit that sometimes
43:01we don’t do this well but sometimes we hold on and we try to control we we don’t step out on the blessing that

SERMON NOTES
A BLESSING IS A PROCLAMATION THAT GOD HAS GOOD THINGS FOR US, OUR CHILDREN, AND OUR LOVED ONES.
WE are called to bless others, our children, our families our loved ones…Jesus even calls us to bless those who curse us…
TO GIVE A BLESSING: is to proclaim and stand in faith that God has good things for us, our children and our loved ones.
Hebrews 11:20 NIV
20 By faith Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau in regard to their future.
Genesis 27:1-4 NIV
1 When Isaac was old and his eyes were so weak that he could no longer see, he called for Esau his older son and said to him, “My son.”“Here I am,” he answered. 2 Isaac said, “I am now an old man and don’t know the day of my death. 3 Now then, get your equipment—your quiver and bow—and go out to the open country to hunt some wild game for me. 4 Prepare me the kind of tasty food I like and bring it to me to eat, so that I may give you my blessing before I die.”
Isaac blesses his children by faith.
So what does it look like to live by faith the way Isaac does?
Genesis 27:8-10 NIV
8 Now, my son, listen carefully and do what I tell you: 9 Go out to the flock and bring me two choice young goats, so I can prepare some tasty food for your father, just the way he likes it. 10 Then take it to your father to eat, so that he may give you his blessing before he dies.”
Genesis 25:23 NIV
23 The Lord said to her, “Two nations are in your womb, and two peoples from within you will be separated; one people will be stronger than the other, and the older will serve the younger.”
Genesis 27:14-27 NIV
14 So he went and got them and brought them to his mother, and she prepared some tasty food, just the way his father liked it. 15 Then Rebekah took the best clothes of Esau her older son, which she had in the house, and put them on her younger son Jacob. 16 She also covered his hands and the smooth part of his neck with the goatskins. 17 Then she handed to her son Jacob the tasty food and the bread she had made. 18 He went to his father and said, “My father.”“Yes, my son,” he answered. “Who is it?” 19 Jacob said to his father, “I am Esau your firstborn. I have done as you told me. Please sit up and eat some of my game, so that you may give me your blessing.” 20 Isaac asked his son, “How did you find it so quickly, my son?”“The Lord your God gave me success,” he replied. 21 Then Isaac said to Jacob, “Come near so I can touch you, my son, to know whether you really are my son Esau or not.” 22 Jacob went close to his father Isaac, who touched him and said, “The voice is the voice of Jacob, but the hands are the hands of Esau.” 23 He did not recognize him, for his hands were hairy like those of his brother Esau; so he proceeded to bless him. 24 “Are you really my son Esau?” he asked.“I am,” he replied. 25 Then he said, “My son, bring me some of your game to eat, so that I may give you my blessing.”Jacob brought it to him and he ate; and he brought some wine and he drank. 26 Then his father Isaac said to him, “Come here, my son, and kiss me.” 27 So he went to him and kissed him. When Isaac caught the smell of his clothes, he blessed him and said,“Ah, the smell of my sonis like the smell of a fieldthat the Lord has blessed.
By Faith Isaac blesses his son even when he is unsure.
Genesis 27:27-29 NIV
27 So he went to him and kissed him. When Isaac caught the smell of his clothes, he blessed him and said,“Ah, the smell of my son is like the smell of a field that the Lord has blessed. 28 May God give you heaven’s dew and earth’s richness—an abundance of grain and new wine. 29 May nations serve you and peoples bow down to you. Be lord over your brothers, and may your mother’s sons bow down to you. May those who curse you be cursed and those who bless you be blessed.”
Genesis 27:32-40 NIV
32 His father Isaac asked him, “Who are you?” “I am your son,” he answered, “your firstborn, Esau.” 33 Isaac trembled violently and said, “Who was it, then, that hunted game and brought it to me? I ate it just before you came and I blessed him—and indeed he will be blessed!” 34 When Esau heard his father’s words, he burst out with a loud and bitter cry and said to his father, “Bless me—me too, my father!” 35 But he said, “Your brother came deceitfully and took your blessing.” 36 Esau said, “Isn’t he rightly named Jacob? This is the second time he has taken advantage of me: He took my birthright, and now he’s taken my blessing!” Then he asked, “Haven’t you reserved any blessing for me?” 37 Isaac answered Esau, “I have made him lord over you and have made all his relatives his servants, and I have sustained him with grain and new wine. So what can I possibly do for you, my son?” 38 Esau said to his father, “Do you have only one blessing, my father? Bless me too, my father!” Then Esau wept aloud. 39 His father Isaac answered him,“Your dwelling will beaway from the earth’s richness, away from the dew of heaven above. 40 You will live by the swordand you will serve your brother. But when you grow restless, you will throw his yokefrom off your neck.”
By faith, Isaac blesses his son when it seems impossible.
Romans 8:14-17 NIV
14 For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. 15 The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” 16 The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. 17 Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.
Romans 5:8 NIV
8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
So what does it look like to live by faith the way Isaac does?
1. To Proclaim Blessing when you are unsure
2. To Proclaim Blessing when it seems impossible.
