NOTES:

Mark 1:14-20 NIV

After John was put in prison, Jesus went into Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God. “The time has come,” he said. “The kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news!” As Jesus walked beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” At once they left their nets and followed him. When he had gone a little farther, he saw James son of Zebedee and his brother John in a boat, preparing their nets. Without delay he called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired men and followed him.

LAST WEEK: V.1-11 SHOWED:

ELEVATED ABOVE THE GREATEST OF PROPHETS.
ENDORSED BY THE FATHER IN BAPTISM: JESUS CHRIST IS GOD, SON, & SAVIOR.
AND THEN WHISKED AWAY AND TEMPTED.

ALL OF THIS SHOWED THAT JESUS WAS GOD, SON, & SAVIOR.

Mark 1:14-15 NIV

After John was put in prison, Jesus went into Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God.“ The time has come,” he said. “The kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news!”

AFTER THIS TIME OF PREPARATION, HE BEGINS HIS MINISTRY.

“THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN HAS COME NEAR, REPENT AND BELIEVE THE GOOD NEWS.”

REPENT: STRONG’S G3340
μετανοέω met-an-o-eh’-o; to change one’s mind for better, heartily to amend with abhorrence of one’s past sinsμετανοέω metanoéō, met-an-o-eh’-o;

AND HE STILL CALLS US TO DO SO TODAY.

Ephesians 4:19-24 NIV

Having lost all sensitivity, they have given themselves over to sensuality so as to indulge in every kind of impurity, and they are full of greed. That, however, is not the way of life you learnedwhen you heard about Christ and were taught in him in accordance with the truth that is in Jesus. You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires to be made new in the attitude of your minds and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.

JESUS CALLS US TO BELIEVE IN HIM AND TURN FROM OUR SIN, REPENTING OF OUR FORMER WAY OF LIVING.

Mark 1:16-18 NIV

As Jesus walked beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen.“ Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” At once they left their nets and followed him.

JESUS IS A DIFFERENT KIND OF TEACHER, LEADING A DIFFERENT KIND OF DISCIPLE.

Matthew 28:18-20 NIV

Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Mark 1:19-20 NIV

When he had gone a little farther, he saw James son of Zebedee and his brother John in a boat, preparing their nets. Without delay he called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired men and followed him.

Luke 9:62 NIV

Jesus replied, “No one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God.”

JESUS CALLS THE DISCIPLES AND THEY ABANDON THEIR FORMER WAY OF LIVING.

HE CALLS US TO DO THE SAME.

Jesus is a different kind of Teacher, producing a different kind of disciple, with a different kind of ministry.

Who is Jesus?
GOD, SON & SAVIOR
More than just a prophet, high priest, man or teacher.

And he calls us to follow him.
Willing to turn away from our former lives and not look back.
Willing to become like him.
Willing to participate in the ministry he began in this earth.

Are you willing?

REFLECT: How is God speaking to you through his word today?
